The North Shore Young Civic Forum is an initiative of North Shore Community Resources’ Democracy Café.
The North Shore Young Civic Forum is designed to address the lack of participation in and influence of younger people in North Shore municipalities’ community overall engagement processes and Council meetings. Though local governments have jurisdiction and decision-making responsibility for a broad variety of government services, land use and taxes, younger adults are often missing from the conversation. As a result, decisions and policies may not always reflect younger adults’ needs, interests and preferences.
To address this gap, the Forum convenes a diverse group of young people to learn about municipal government and create meaningful projects to present to their municipal councils.
The Forum runs from the beginning of February to mid-May 2024 and is open to people aged 18 – 39 who live, work, or study on the North Shore.
Applications are welcome from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, regardless of prior knowledge in civic engagement. Utilizing intersectional approaches and equitable practices, the Forum aims to foster a safe yet dynamic learning environment.
Forum 4.0 is currently underway. Check back for information about Forum 5.0 in late 2024.
